Location

Located in the Coastal Mountains of southwestern British Columbia, Whistler is approximately 125 kilometres north of Vancouver. Although a small local airport is available, most visitors travel to Whistler by car or rail to maximize their enjoyment of the stunning sea-to-sky corridor. Whistler is approximately 2 hours from downtown Vancouver by car.

Size & Population

The permanent population of Whistler is approximately 9,900 although there is a large growth in population in peak summer and winter months with an influx of seasonal resort employees and visitors.

Geography & Climate

Whistler Village sits at the base of Whistler and Blackcomb mountains at an elevation of 670 meters above sea level. The highest point is the summit of Blackcomb Mountain with an elevation of 2,284 meters. With an average of 10 meters of snow annually, Whistler and Blackcomb Mountains consistently offer reliable skiing conditions, and the glacier on Blackcomb is open almost year round.

Due to its proximity on the coast, the temperatures in Whistler average -5° Celsius in winter. The summer months (May – September) are generally warm with little rainfall and average temperatures of 22° Celsius. Although summer temperatures can reach up to 30° Celsius in the day, evenings and early morning are often cool in the mountains!
