Banff & Jasper

Location

Banff is located in the Canadian Rocky Mountains approximately two hours west of Calgary.
Jasper National Park is located 860 kilometres from Vancouver and about 400 kilometres from Calgary.

Size & Population

Population of Jasper is about 4500 and population of Banff is about 6700. As both cities are situated in National Parks, the city limits are almost endless.

Geography & Climate

Both cities are situated in the Rockies which means a long winter (November to April) and a generally warm summer.  The average winter temperature is around -10° Celsius but can get as cold as -30°Celsius. Summer temperatures are generally around 20° Celsius but early mornings and late evening will cool down dramatically. 

Attractions & Things to Do

  • The famous Columbia Ice Fields sit about halfway between Banff and Jasper. Destination 48North can provide you with a unique glacier experience. You’ll travel comfortably and safely in a specially designed Glacier Bus to the middle of the ice field.
  • Both Jasper National Park and Banff National Park are known to outdoor enthusiasts for the hiking and paddling. Banff and Jasper are both situated in the middle of the Canadian Rocky Mountains and are surrounded by massive peaks.
  • Banff has three world class ski resorts: Lake Louise, Sunshine Village, and Mt. Norquay. The ski season is the longest in Canada running from mid-November to late-May.
  • Jasper is the gateway to Canada’s largest secluded wilderness.
